Beauty World and Upper Bukit Timah Around The Sen

The Sen sits where the forested hills of Upper Bukit Timah meet the long-established shops of Beauty World. This guide describes both sides of the neighbourhood and how they are changing.

Upper Bukit Timah, the Green Side of The Sen

Upper Bukit Timah is one of Singapore’s greenest residential districts, a band of private estates, condominiums and landed streets strung along Upper Bukit Timah Road between the Bukit Timah and Bukit Batok nature areas. The Sen stands off Jalan Jurong Kechil, with Bukit Batok Nature Park about 520 metres to the north and the landed homes of the surrounding estates to the west.

The address falls within postal District 21, which takes in Upper Bukit Timah, Clementi Park and Ulu Pandan. The developer’s brochure calls the area “a heartland of stunning horizons”, and the drone photograph of the site shows why: forest on almost every side.

Beauty World from The Sen

Beauty World is the neighbourhood centre, a cluster of older malls and newer developments around Beauty World MRT station. Bukit Timah Shopping Centre is about 1.0 kilometre from the site and Beauty World Centre about 1.1 kilometres, both in a straight line on OneMap; Bukit Timah Plaza, with its supermarket, is about 1.5 kilometres away, and The Linq at Beauty World sits beside the station.

How Beauty World Is Changing Near The Sen

Beauty World is in the middle of a long renewal. An integrated transport hub at Beauty World MRT station adds a bus interchange, and a community building under construction there will hold a community club, a sports hall, facilities for the elderly and a redeveloped market and hawker centre, according to the developer’s brochure. Further south, the Turf City area is being planned for a large new residential district, and the Holland Plain estate is taking shape.

The Rail Corridor and The Sen

The old Bukit Timah Railway Station, now a community node of the Rail Corridor, is about 2.1 kilometres from the site, and the corridor itself runs past The Rail Mall on Upper Bukit Timah Road.
